English Language & Discussions
Successful Presentations
Successful Negotiations
Navigating Across Cultures
Effective Business Writing

Executive English’s approach is not school. It’s business. Executive English helps clients take their careers to the next level.

English Language & Discussions

We begin with the language basics – using verb tenses correctly, expanding vocabulary, strengthening grammar – and bring these lessons to life by using materials from the workplace. In discussions of actual business situations and role plays, clients strengthen their English, and practice key but tricky situations found in meetings and on the phone. Participants learn to:

  • propose a plan
  • ask direct questions and give indirect answers
  • give and reject advice
  • express strong opinions
  • move from request to suggest to demand
  • buy time
  • disagree with a subordinate, a colleague, a boss

Clients move their English forward to increase their success.

Successful Presentations

Success in today’s corporate world means knowing how to give clear, confident and convincing presentations.  Clients practice presentations and follow their progress on video to make sure body language, English language, and visual language have the strongest impact.  Speak the English of presentations and learn to:

  • target the message for impact
  • use visuals to advantage
  • handle Q&A sessions confidently
  • finish strongly

Executive English helps clients sell their products and ideas with power and Powerpoint, in English.

Successful Negotiations

Moving up to a new job or working on a corporate merger, negotiations run all through business, and Executive English takes you through all phases of negotiating. Discussions here include international negotiating styles, the importance of relationship building, bargaining styles and outcome expectations. In this Unit, clients learn how to speak the English of negotiating:

  • plan strategies
  • identify positions and interests – and know the difference
  • develop a Plan B: options and alternatives
  • learn what to say, when to be silent – and when to walk away

In lively simulations and role plays, clients learn to confidently develop winning solutions for all, in English.

Navigating Across Cultures

During discussions, negotiations, even a drink at the pub, cultural differences must be put on the business radar screen. National culture plays a key role in how managers communicate, make decisions, and lead. Looking at your own culture in international business is equally important. In this Unit, we cross borders and cultures to discuss all of these issues:

  • business socializing
  • language traps: same word, different meaning
  • using humor
  • different countries, different power structures: tips and taboos

Ignoring corporate or national culture will sabotage international projects; knowing them  will ensure success.

Effective Business Writing

In our digital world, business – from making initial contacts to closing the deal – is handled online. In this Unit, we cover the essentials of English business and technical writing for emails, letters and reports that are clear, concise and correct. You will learn to:

  • write for the reader
  • use simple language and the right tone
  • master the mechanics of punctuation and grammar
  • use bullets: write less and people will read more

With more effective communication, clients reach their business goals.

Training Formats

Executive English customizes training programs for each firm’s specific needs. Programs are offered one-on-one or in small groups. The training content and format depend on the number of participants, English level and availability.

All Executive English programs begin with a comprehensive interview and assessment of participant(s)’ language needs, training objectives, job responsibilities and styles. All programs include English language review, and may include additional Core Program Units or specially designed ones.

Programs may be as short as 3 days or as long as needed. Hours may be full-day or half-day, depending on whether participants continue with their regular work outside training sessions.

Executive English offers the Flex-Format especially for those who need flexibility. The Flex-Format includes 3 or more one-week units, separated over a period of 12 to 14 months, according to each participant’s availability. The time between training sessions gives Flex-Format participants a chance to apply and solidify what they have learned. As with all Executive English programs, content is tailored to participant needs.

Locations

Programs are held on-site, world-wide, in a client’s conference room or in a hotel facility.

Executive English also offers ongoing one-on-one training in Washinton, DC and in the Boston area.

Fees

Fees are based on the specific program, length, format and number of participants. Please contact Executive English for details.
